NHCFA Challenges and Opportunities for Today
New Hampshire Citizens for the Arts is still the most effective vehicle for uniting the voices of people who care about preserving the arts and the contributions the arts and humanities make to the state’s quality of life. We are devoted to legislative advocacy and collective political action to benefit all NH citizens on behalf of artists, arts organizations and audiences. In the spring of 2003 NHCFA reacted in a positive fashion to the Governor’s budget reductions. We hosted our first “Annual Arts Awareness Breakfast” at the NH Historical Society’s building in Concord, thereby allowing open discussion between attendees from arts organizations and members of the House and Senate. We then followed up through quiet lobbying activity to educate decision-makers in the Senate regarding the need to retrieve the $50,000 cut from the budget for the state’s Cultural Facilities program.
